Let's be honest, it's really not all too hard to make me blush. Having said that, I've never felt that I've had an embarassing moment. I've been embarassed for sure, many times. But never had one of those, "I really wish I didn't exist right now" moments. Until now. But it really was so embarassingly humorous that I feel it should be shared.
I was flying home from my family vacation chatting it up with the guy next to me (he was also a respiratory therapist, we had lots to talk about) when I felt the need to ask him what the airplane etiquette was for vomitting on an airplane. This has never happened to me before, and the fasten seat belt sign was lighted. I had no choice but to frantically look for a barf bag. It was so embarassing! In case you were wondering, there is no quiet way to vomit from your seat on a plane--in first class no less--it was classy. And not just once, but 4 times. And as if this wasn't enough, the lady in front of me turned around and said, "oh, sweetie, is this your first time flying?" To add insult to injury! No! I've been flying since I was a fetus! I tried to explain that I have Crohn's, happens all the time, nobody panic, it's not contagious, it's no big deal, but nobody could hear me through my continued retching. Everyone kept sneaking nervous glances at me. As I left the plane, the guy next to me yelled "next time you shouldn't drink so much before a flight." At least he thought it was funny.

Hold your applause
Our family was enjoying the last sunset on our great vacation, and right after the sun dropped below the horizon, a group of people started clapping. I hate that. Why do people feel the need to clap at things like a sunset, or the end of a movie? And so help me if someone claps once the plane lands. The highlight of the trip was watching a beached whale. It was sick, so they euthanized it and then carried it away. It was sad, but not so sad as to cry about it like many of the people watching. I'm really not heartless, but I didn't know the whale, we weren't that close.

The wind on our trip to Moab was a little annoying. I'm not talking about a breeze, I'm talking about wind that made me think we were going to be blown away like Dorothy. It was still a very fun trip though and we got to do everything we wanted to do. Plus, we're only one trip away from our National Parks Pass paying for itself!

To California, with Love
I am not one to talk politics. I can't tell you what's going on in Iraq, Pakistan or South Ossetia (I only know of that place because of Logan); I don't know what's happening in the financial world (other than I'm losing money); and I haven't watched one political debate. Embarrassing, I know. I have my reasons though. I don't like the confrontation, heated debates, or that I feel that there is no truth involved. However, I do get quite interested in politics when it comes too close to invading my personal beliefs. Enter: Proposition 8: "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid and recognized in California." I support this proposition, it follows what I believe. Please continue reading to find out why I am so passionate about this. I think it is said best from Protect Marriage, "Proposition 8 is NOT an attack on gay couples and does not take away the rights that same-sex couples already have under California’s domestic partner law. California law already grants domestic partners all the rights that a state can grant to a married couple. Gays have a right to their private lives, but not to change the definition of marriage for everyone else." I can be tolerant of others' belief's and choices, but never at the expense of my own.
Although my personal support for the proposition stems from my religious beliefs, I think the matter is bigger than that. There are many who shrug their shoulders and say, "this doesn't affect me, let people do what they want." This is not true. This is not just about marriage and it WILL affect everyone. For example, schools will change their curriculum to teach that same sex attraction is normal and same sex marriage appropriate, beginning at a very young age. Here's a video about what is already happening in Boston. It's alarming. As well as first graders in San Francisco being taken to City Hall for a gay marriage on a school sponsored field trip. The Catholic Charities in Boston no longer handles adoptions, because they were told they can't follow their beliefs to only place children in homes with a mother and a father. A gynecologist in Vista, CA refused to do in vitro fertilization for a lesbian couple and is being sued, a psychologist refused to give counseling to a lesbian couple and was fired, a wedding photographer refused to shoot a commitment ceremony and was sued for discrimination. All these people cited their reasons for refusal as religion but their religious liberties were "side-stepped." These examples and more can be found here. There are examples everywhere and they are clear: this will affect you. This is opening Pandora's box for the phrase "equal rights" to trump any belief you might have. That's the irony: rights are being taken away in the name of equal rights. I do not agree with this. This is frightening.

To infinity, and Beyond
They say that you haven't seen Disneyland until you've seen it through the eyes of a child. But you also haven't seen Disneyland until you've experienced it with a 25 year old who has been deprived his whole life. Logan had never been, and we only had one day to see it, so we blitzed it. We managed to see it all, but we were exhausted after 16 hours of it! We also packed into our three days an Angels game (they lost badly, but we're not Angels fans), Bodies: the exhibition (Logan has so much more respect for what I do now), and visiting with family and friends we don't get to see often (Logan got to meet my whole family). Oh, and a long car ride, which I slept most of the way.
This is my favorite ride. I used to hate it until I learned the secrets. I'm pretty sure we rode it at least 7 times. And Logan only won once. Due to my awesome form. Sadly they don't put the scores on the pictures anymore. High scores for the day: Kristen: 411,700 Logan:515, 100 Brandon: some ridiculous number around 600,000
You know you're getting old when you don't want to spin the teacups. I didn't want to, but I sacrificed so Logan could get the full Disney experience
